Fees, Insurance, & Sliding Scale Therapy
We believe clients should understand the cost of therapy before beginning care. SF Therapy Collective offers a sliding fee structure based on monthly household income, with separate rates for individual and couples therapy.
We are an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill insurance directly, but we can provide documentation you may submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement.
Our current 2025–2026 fees range from:
Individual therapy: Starting at $120 per session
Couples therapy: Starting at $140 per session
Your session fee is based on your monthly household income. Your therapist or intake coordinator can help confirm the applicable fee before your first appointment.
Payment
Payment is requested at the time of each in-person and remote session unless otherwise discussed. We accept payment in the form of a debit card, cash, or check before or at the time of your session.
Insurance
As with most mental health agencies in the Bay Area, we are an out-of-network provider. This means we do not participate directly in insurance panels and do not bill insurance companies on your behalf.
Many insurance plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. When available, these benefits may reimburse you for part of your session fee after you meet your deductible. Reimbursement depends on your specific plan.
We are happy to provide a superbill, also called an itemized bill, for you to submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. In order to assess what kind of coverage you have prior to making an appointment, ask your insurance provider what your out-of-network mental health benefit is and what, if any, your deductible is for mental health coverage.
Cancellation Policy
We request at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Missed sessions or sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at your regular session fee.
We understand that unexpected circumstances happen. When possible, your therapist may offer a same-week reschedule. If a same-week rescheduled session occurs, you will only be charged for the session that took place.
Questions to Ask Your Insurance Company
Before scheduling, you may want to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What is my out-of-network deductible?
How much of my deductible has already been met?
What percentage of each therapy session is reimbursed after the deductible is met?
Do I need prior authorization?
How do I submit a superbill or itemized bill?
Is telehealth therapy reimbursed at the same rate as in-person therapy?
